According to the policy adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact information a domain is registered with must be correct and up to date at all times. At the same time, this information is publicly available on WHOIS lookup web sites and while this may be OK for firms, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, because everybody can see their names and their personal home and email addresses, all the more so in times when identity theft isn’t that infrequent. That is the reason why domain registrars have come up with a service that hides the details of their clients without altering them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. If it’s active, people will view the details of the domain registrar, not those of the domain owner, if they perform a WHOIS lookup. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic TLD extensions, but it is still not possible to conceal your information with some country-code extensions.

Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Web Hosting

If you get a shared web hosting package from our company, you’ll be able to activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names on the condition that their extensions support the service. You can register/transfer a domain name and add Whois Privacy Protection during the registration process or you can enable the service for any of your domains at any time later via the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The procedure is unbelievably easy – after you sign in, you’ll have to go to the Registered Domains section where you’ll find a list of all the domains that you have registered with us. For each of them you’ll see an “Whois Privacy Protection” button, which will let you know if the service is activated or not. By clicking on it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain name, or you can disable the service if it is currently enabled.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain under it, you can activate our Whois Privacy Protection service without effort. This requires only a few clicks of the mouse in the Hepsia Control Panel’s Registered Domains section, via which you administer everything related to your semi-dedicated web hosting account. This is where you can see all your active domain names and for each one of them you will see an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon, using which you can order, renew or remove the Whois Privacy Protection service. Of course, this will be possible only with generic and country-code domain extensions that support this option and you’ll be able to see this in advance, so you will not end up paying for a service that we can’t provide.
